A woman who worked for four years at Emporia State University was arrested on campus this morning and charged with document fraud in federal court.
Maria A. Batiz, 45, of Mexico is scheduled for a first appearance at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Wichita. She was indicted Oct. 17 by a federal grand jury on two counts of document fraud, misusing a Social Security number, making a false statement on an I-9 form and two counts of aggravated identity theft, according to Eric Melgren, U.S. attorney for Kansas.
Batiz was working in janitorial services, according to law-enforcement sources. She worked at ESU for four years, Melgren said, and also worked at Resource Center for Independent Living in Osage City.
