Richter named MIAA Special Team Player of the Week
Emporia State safety Jake Richter, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound junior from Clay Center was named the MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week after blocking two kicks for the Hornet special teams in a 24-12 loss at No. 16 Missouri Western on Saturday.
The first was a blocked punt, which set up ESU’s first touchdown to give the Hornets a 6-0 lead.
The second came at the end of the first half, as Richter snuffed a field goal attempt as time expired. Richter has five blocks (three punts, one field goal, one PAT) this season.
With two field goal attempts blocked against Missouri Western, ESU tied the MIAA single-season record with five so far this year.
Richter also had 12 tackles on defense in the loss.
