From 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, animals will be available from both organizations at the park. The team effort also is being done in conjunction with North Shore Animal League America and Weight Watchers to promote pet adoption and fitness. The Buck Fund and the Emporia Animal Shelter will have many homeless kittens, puppies, dogs and cats for adoption at the park Saturday. C. of E. commemoration
A group of College of Emporia alumni, faculty, former students and supporters will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday in front of Kenyon Hall on the former campus to hang a “C. of E. Fights” banner and take photographs. Kenyon Hall has been purchased by Mitchell and Markowitz Construction and, though efforts are underway to save the building, the company plans to raze it. Jack Mitchell, president of the C. of E. Alumni Association, said after the photo session, the group will move to the corner of 15th Avenue and Chestnut Street. The association has made arrangements for a park bench and obelisk to be installed on Friday to commemorate the college and its students. After the dedication, the group will have lunch at the Olpe Chicken House, which had been a popular eating place for C. of E. students.
