Greenwood County
Harold Henderson was honored last week for his many years of service to the Eureka Tornado Booster Club and youth of the area. The presentation was made by the booster club.
Henderson has been a statistician for more than 32 years for the Eureka football and basketball teams and has worked to promote the club and Tornado activities. He volunteered his time to work tables to distribute items, sell merchandise, or raise funds.
Booster club president Linda Petterson and Bret Howard, Eureka High School athletic director, presented a plaque to Henderson. The plaque contained a picture of Henderson when he was grand marshall of the Eureka Days Parade.
Veterans will be honored at a special event sponsored by the Madison Public Library. The event is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the Sauder Center.
Organizers are seeking information about veterans and need name, branch of service, years served (if available), where the service was, and whether the veteran is living, deceased, or killed in combat.
A Mothers Against Methamphetamine chapter has been formed in Greenwood County.
The Flint Hills Chapter was organized last month and meets in the Greenwood County Hospital meeting room. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. (OCT. 26)
Becky Crisswell was elected president.
Austin Klumpe has been chosen as the first recipient of the Pat Noyes Men’s Basketball Scholarship at McPherson College. Klumpe was the unanimous choice of the Scholarship Recipient Committee. He will receive the award during the Bulldog Alumni Weekend, Feb. 9-11.
In a notification letter to Klumpe, the committee said, “We believe you are the kind of person and player Pat would be proud to receive this award named in his honor.”
He is the son of Jane and Kent Scott and Steven Klumpe and is a senior at McPherson.
A Kingery is queen at Bartlesville, Okla. Sarah Kingery was elected homecoming queen at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, where she is a senior student. She is the daughter of Terry and Cathy Kingery of Madison.
Morris County
Ken Harris shot his second hole-in-one in about three weeks on Sunday at Hole No. 7 on the Council Grove Country Club golf course.
Harris’ other hole-in-one came on Sept. 22 on the No. 3 hole.
A film crew was in Council Grove this month to tape scenes of a number of historic sites in and around the city. The footage will be used in a public television series on Kansas communities.
The project is being done by Wichita Public Television, KPTS-TV.
Osage County
A Taking Off Pounds Sensibly group is being formed in the Osage City area.
TOPS, a non-profit organization since 1948, holds weekly meetings to provide moral support, encouragement, and information about good nutrition and exercise.

Former area resident Rob Curley presented a lecture last week at Emporia State University. Curley is the vice president of product development at Washingtonpost. Newsweek Interactive.
Curley talked about developing web pages and databases for newspapers and discussed ways that news could be provided immediately by use of technology.
He is the son of John and Sheila Curley of Osage City.
