Power plant industry has promising future
Friday, October 20, 2006
The secret is out… the power plant industry is growing rapidly and for the next 5-10 years quality entry-level positions will be greater than the number of qualified applicants. According to directors at regional utility companies, there will be a shortage of workers for entry-level career positions in operations, maintenance and machining. These positions, with starting salaries ranging from $17-$25 an hour, require extensive training and college programs such as FHTC’s power plant technology degree. Several companies require a certificate or degree from a colleges or comparative programs just to apply for a position in operations or maintenance.
FHTC’s power plant technology program is the only program in Southeast Kansas that trains quality men and women to fill entry-level operations and maintenance positions for the major Kansas utilities. If you would like to learn more about the program visit our instructor, Wolf Creek retiree Merlin Williams by calling (620) 343-4600.
FHTC graduates are advised and hired by WESTAR, Wolf Creek and other regional utilities.
