Music at ESU
The ESU Department of Music faculty recital presents Martin Cuéllar, A Concert of Chamber Music, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Heath Recital Hall of Beach Music Hall. On Thursday, the Mid-America Woodwind Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Heath Recital Hall. General admission is $5; $4 for students and senior citizens. Information: 341-5431.
“Slaughterhouse” opens
The Community Theatre of Emporia will present “Slaughterhouse,” a murder mystery play directed by Scott Rochat, from Oct. 26 through Oct. 29. The run begins Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. and continues at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 and Oct. 28, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 29. All performances are at the Emporia Arts Council, 618 Mechanic St.
The box office opens one hour before showtime. Tickets are $7 for general admission, $6 for seniors or $5 for students. Tickets may be reserved at 341-9283.
Snyder signing
Former Kansas State University football coach Bill Snyder will sign copies of his book “They Said It Couldn’t Be Done” on Oct. 25 at Hastings. The signing will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Library events
The Emporia Public Library continues its storytimes for children, with family night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays. “Chocolate Teasers for Those Book Pleasers,” for all ages and sponsored by Children’s Services, is from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday. From 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, will be family pumpkin carving, with participants bringing pumpkins to carve. For “non-pumpkin carvers,” there will be Halloween crafts. Trick or Treat at the Library will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 29. Volunteer “book cart pushers” are needed for the Veterans Day and Christmas parades. For more information, call Sue Blechl, 340-6464.
Music gala
The 2006 ESU Music Gala Benefit Recital at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in Heath Recital Hall of Beach Music Hall is featuring Scott Herring, marimba, former ESU music faculty member. All proceeds from the concert are used for music talent scholarships. Tickets are available by calling 341-5431 or at the door.
Book group meets Nov. 1
The Emporia Public Library book discussion series continues with “The History of Love: A Novel by Nicole Krauss” at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 in the large meeting room. Multiple copies of the selected titles are available for checkout. For more information, call Lynette Olson at 340-6451.
Flashlight Tour tickets available
Tickets are now on sale for the first Flashlight Tour of Haunted Emporia, which will be held Oct. 27.
Ticket outlets include The Sweet Granada, The Granada Coffee Co., the ESU Memorial Union Information Service Center and the visitor center of the William Allen White house. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for college students $4 for seniors and children over the age of five and $20 for a group or family of five. All participants should bring their own flashlights.
Funds raised will go to ESU theater scholarships, the Granada Theatre Alliance, Plumb Place and the White Historic Site.
Performances begin at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Ticket holders may start at the location of their choice including the White home, 927 Exchange St.; the ESU Memorial Union, entered from Kellogg Circle; the Granada Theatre, 807 Commercial St., starting under the marquee; and Plumb Place, 224 E. Sixth Ave.
