The first day of early voting began today with high exepctations and a line outside the Lyon County clerk’s office as it opened.
County Clerk Karen Hartenbower said the county could see more than 50 percent of its registered voters turn out for the election. Some would-be voters even turned up on Tuesday, she said, after misreading the date for the start of advanced voting.
“There’s really high interest in this one,” Hartenbower said. “I think the two big reasons here are the ballot questions and the governor’s race. I think both of those are going to be drawing cards.”
Lyon County has more than 20,000 registered voters. Voters may continue to register through Monday, after which a final count will be available.
“The college brought us a couple hundred registration cards yesterday, so we’re working overtime to get them all in,” Hartenbower said.
The election is Nov. 6.
