Unclaimed property

Kathy Priest from the Kansas State Treasurer's office reported that there were 193 inquiries concerning unclaimed property at the booth during the Americus Days celebration. Property was found for 53 of the searches. The dollar value for the properties found was $5,772 and for stock properties was $1,431.25 for a total value of $7,203.25.

Plant show results

According to Don Edmiston, plant show coordinator, winners were: Cut flowers, first, Wilma Finney, second, Wilma Finney, third, Christine Arndt; cactus, Pat Sutton; blooming plants, first, Pat Sutton, second, Lakota Preisner, third, Virginia Roberts; foliage (no blooms), first, Virginia Roberts, second, Americus Township Library, third Virginia Roberts; hanging plants, Virginia Roberts; best of show, Wilma Finney.

Talent show participants

Participants in the Talent Showcase which was directed by Denise King were: Lydie Moe, vocal; Morgan Kauffman, vocal; Americus Junior High Band and Choir; Chris Wedel, vocal; Olin Karr, violin; Cory Anderson, guitar; Mindy Anderson, vocal; Flint Hills Martial Arts Center Dance Division, gymnastics, directed by Freda Grantham; and Northern Heights High School Firecats Dance Team.

Horseshoe tournament

Jim Theas reported the following winners: Doubles, first, Ed Gillespie and Ron Elsen; second, Roger Hewitt and Kevin Schlimme; third, Ray Barrett and Leonard Sill; fourth, Jim Theas and Don Hatch. Singles winners were: First, Brian Looper; second, Kevin Schlimme; third, Tracy Dobbs; and fourth, Jim Theas.

Softball tournament

T-shirts were awarded to all of the participants in the round robin tournament. Jimmy Carpenter reported that the teams had a duck soup game where every inning had a special task to perform e.g. run backwards or bat with one hand.

5K Run-walk

Twenty-six babies under age two were entered in the baby parade.
