The Olpe volleyball team swept through play with a 6-0 record at Saturday’s Lyon County League volleyball tournament at White Auditorium to capture the league title.
Olpe, the No. 2 seed, defeated No. 3-seed Lyndon in the final match, 2-0 (25-15, 28-26), to finish the day unbeaten, giving the Eagles the league tournament crown. Kylie Haag led Olpe with nine kills against Lyndon, while Megan Woods added eight kills of her own.
Olpe began the day with a dominating run through pool play, sweeping Chase County, Marais des Cygnes Valley, Madison and Lyndon — all by scores of 2-0 — to win the Pool II side of the bracket. Lyndon finished second in Pool II play with a 3-1 record.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 1-seed Flinthills matched Olpe’s undefeated record by sweeping through its four games against Burlingame, Lebo, Hartford and Waverly. Lebo finished 2-2 in Pool I play to advance.
Lyndon provided the upset of the day by taking out top-seeded Flinthills in the opening round of the championship bracket. The Tigers defeated Mustangs, 2-0 (25-20, 25-18) to advance to the championship game.
Meanwhile, Olpe routed Lebo, 2-0 (25-13, 25-18) to set up the showdown between Olpe and Lyndon for league bragging rights.
The Eagles proved to be too much for the Tigers, winning the first game handily, 25-15, before holding off a Lyndon charge in the second game, 28-26, to win the Lyon County League title.
Flinthills defeated Lebo, 2-0 (25-13, 25-19) in the third-place game.

This is confusing. According to the tournament pamphlet, Lyndon was the top seed, not # 3, and those were not all the correct teams that Olpe played in their pool.... Hartford & Waverly were in Olpe's pool......Oh heck, they don't have any of the pool play stuff here correct....... somebody needs to print a correction :)

Great victory for the Lady Eagles! Nice to see their volleyball program in the spotlight for the past couple of years. Good job, Coach Marilyn Stueve.
