Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at Pyramid Pizza. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

Emporia Masonic Lodge 12 meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

Tuesday

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Etude Club meets with Joan Bales. Ann Snyder will give the program, “Camp Wood.”

Junto meets at the home of Janell North. Susan Koch will give the program.

The Literary League meets at the Presbyterian Manor, with Merle Peterson serving as hostess. Roll call will be “A Favorite Trip.” Mar Melhorn will give the program, “Enjoy and Have Fun.”

The Research Club meets with Ann Cochennet. Mary Ann Schaefer will give the program.

Speakers will be Janis Meyer and Lana Richardson, who will give a report about their trip to Anaheim, Calif., for the National ABWA Conference. The Emporia Camera Club meets at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St. Jack and Mary Melhorn will give the program, “Machu Picchu, Peru.” The membership showing is “Sunrise, Sunset.” Hosts are Roy and Mary Gallup.

Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location.

P.E.O. Chapter GT meets at 1:15 p.m. in the parlor of the First United Methodist Church. Mar ged Amend will give the program, “Romania.” Jane Reeble will give the project report.

Saturday

The Flint Hills Genealogical Society and the Emporia Public Library are sponsoring a Genealogy Work Night from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the library, 110 E. Sixth Ave. New and veteran researchers are invited to bring snacks or covered dishes to share. There will be instruction available for those who might need help in getting started in family research.
