Eat before the Olpe game

The Olpe United Methodist Church will have a Tailgate Party from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. They will serve chili or vegetable soup, pulled pork sandwiches, desserts and beverage. The cost will be $2 for soup or sandwich and 50 cents for chips, cookies or beverage. If you don’t want to wait for change, put a donation in the can. All funds raised will go into the building fund.

Bazaar and soup supper

The Neosho Rapids United Methodist Church Bazaar and soup supper will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Neosho Rapids Elementary School. The cost for adults, $3.50; children, $2.50. There will be games, a country store, cake walk, baked goods, pie auction, quilt drawing and drawings for many other items.

Annual lobster dinner

There will be a traditional Maine Lobster Dinner on Oct. 21 at the First Congregational Church. Tickets, $20 each person, must be purchased in advance before Oct. 18. Office hours are 9 a.m. to noon; call 342-6854; or contact a church member. Seating times can be arranged for 5, 5:30, 6 or 6:30 p.m. The menu includes fresh Maine lobster, baked potato, coleslaw, green beans, coffee or tea and brownie ala-mode dessert. Proceeds will be used for Special Projects Funds.

Food drive

In observance of National Cooperative Month, the Lyon-Coffey Electric Cooperative will be the host for a community food drive for local food banks. Participants can bring non-perishable food items to these area sites: Lyon-Coffey Electric Coop in Emporia and Burlington and Osage Chevrolet-Buick in Osage City. Foods will be delivered to the local food banks. Other sites are in Ottawa, Yates Center and Garnett. Information: (800) 748-7395.

Hog roast

The Melvern Community PRIDE will sponsor a benefit Hog Roast with all the fixings on Saturday, starting at 5:30 p.m. The suggested donation is $8 with free hot dogs for children 10 and under with the purchase of an adult meal. Entertainment will be provided so bring lawn chairs for an evening of fun at the Melvern Railroad Park. In case of inclement weather the alternate location will be the Melvern Community Center.
