Lyon County is one step closer to enrolling on the Community Rating System program with the National Flood Insurance Program.
Lyon County Zoning Administrator and Flood Plain Manager Steve Samuelson aid CRS is a program to make the community safer and help residents save money on their flood insurance at the same time.
Lyon County recently completed a Community Assisted Visit through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In all eight review categories FEMA determined that Lyon County has no deficiencies. This successful audit is another step toward the CRS.
“Based upon the CAV meeting discussion and review of the (Lyon) county’s floodplain management program, which included a field survey of the special hazard area, as shown on the Lyon County Flood Insurance Rate Map, it has been determined that the Lyon County floodplain management program has no deficiencies,” said Rich Leonard, chief of hazard identification and risk assessment branch at the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Division at FEMA.
