No evidence to support

The Emporia Police Department today announced that nothing has been reported that would substantiate any rape or assault as mentioned in a series of e-mails that have circulated through the Emporia community and beyond this week.

The e-mails make two separate allegations.

The first describes an incident wherein several Somalian workers forced a female co-worker into a closet and raped her at the Tyson plant here.

The second alleges that a group of Somalians converged on a woman at a car wash on East 12th Avenue. She was alleged to have escaped by getting back to her car and driving away.

If either incident took place, neither has been reported to police.

“In reviewing the files here ... I find nothing associated with anything that is being sent around in these e-mails,” said Deputy Police Chief Mike Williams. “We’ve had no complaints.”

Willliams said that victims of all crimes need to report them to police.

“We encourage everybody to step forward and advise us of those types of situations,” he said. “That’s what the investigative arm is for.”
