There will be an antique farm machinery demonstration on the block north of the fire station on Main Street at 2 p.m. Bruce Anderson and Lester Edmunds will demonstrate and show a Husker Shredder powered by a 1946 WC Allis and a hay baler powered by a nine-year-old white horse named Princess owned by Lester Edmunds for the past 5-years.
A community church service will be held at 10 a.m., Sunday morning, in the Americus Park shelterhouse. Members from the Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church and the Baptist Church will assist with the service. Immediately following, there will be a basket dinner. Participants are asked to bring food to share and tableware for their family. In case of inclement weather, everything will be moved to the Methodist Church. For information call (620) 443-5371.
Raffle tickets are on sale at the KansasLand Bank and will also be sold during the Americus Days celebration at the Hospitality Booth. T-shirts will also be available.
Entries for the parade may be made the day of the parade before 11 a.m. Advance entries are welcome, but not required. Bicycle riders must wear helmets.
There will be a pet parade with prizes for the friendliest pet, the best behaved pet, and the most unusual pet. Pets must be restrained or on a leash. Claude and Melba Roswurm will serve as parade marshalls and Wendell Tietz will be the honored distinguished citizen.
There will 5 categories in the Plant Show at the Americus Library. They are: Cut flowers; foliage; foliage with no bloom; blooming plant; hanging plant; and cactus. The plants may be entered Friday morning beginning at 9 a.m. and the judging will be that afternoon around 2 p.m. The plants will be on display throughout the day Saturday. The Jared Pete Gile Band will play for a dance on the tennis court from 7-11 p.m. The dance will be held rain or shine. Entry will be by donation and there will be a charge for coolers.
