A candidates’ forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters, the Chamber of Commerce and ESU’s Associated Student Government will be Monday in Room 330 of Visser Hall on the ESU campus.
Word is being spread around campus by word of mouth, and some professors such as those in the economics and social science departments are offering extra credit to students who attend such forums.
“In my opinion, college is about preparing you for larger life and becoming a good citizen,” said Mandi Hulme, vice-president of Associated Student Government at ESU. “We are not just here to meet friends and have fun.”
Each candidate will be given time for opening and closing statements with questions from the audience in between. The candidates for First District county commission will begin at 6 p.m. followed by candidates for the Kansas House 76th District and ending with the Kansas House 60th district.
ASG has been getting the word out classroom by classroom, according to Hulme.
On Tuesday, the two attorney general candidates, Paul Morrison and Phill Kline, will be on a televised forum sponsored by the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence. The forum will be broadcast live from 7 to 8 p.m. on Cox Channel 22. It also will be broadcast live on radio station KMUW (89.1) and Kansas Public Radio may air it, according to the League of Women Voters. KAKE-TV Channel 10 will rebroadcast the program later on Tuesday.
