The Emporia City Commission wants to hear suggestions on what to look for in a new city manager.
The city will hold a community forum on the subject starting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Little Theater of White Auditorium. The information gathered will be considered by the city and its consultant, Chuck Anderson of Waters-Oldani, in the city manager search.
“We definitely want the community’s input,” Mayor Jim Kessler said. “We haven’t done this for 20 years. We want to make sure everyone has their say.”
The following week, on Oct 18 and 19, Anderson will interview the commission, city staff and some members of the public. That information will also be used to create a profile for an “ideal” Emporia city manager.
Kessler said the commission expects to start advertising for the position by the first or second week of November and start receiving resumes by December. Finalists will be interviewed after the first of the year and a candidate is projected to be chosen by the end of February.
