Fourteen home games highlight the 2006 Emporia State women’s basketball schedule, which was released last week.
ESU opens regular-season play at the Candlewood Suites Classic at White Auditorium on Nov. 17-18, taking on Cameron Friday and Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday.
The Lady Hornets will open exhibition play at Bramlage Coliseum on Nov. 5, facing the WNIT champion Kansas State Wildcats in Manhattan. It will be the third consecutive year the two teams have played a preseason contest.
ESU, which has won 29 straight regular-season non-conference games, will get tested on the road in a pair of tournaments in December. The team travels to the Denver Tourney Dec. 2, then plays in the Northern Kentucky Classic Dec. 18-19.
Fort Hays State opens the conference portion of the schedule on Dec. 9. The game — which will be played at White Auditorium — is FHSU’s first conference matchup as a member of the MIAA.
The Lady Hornets’ first crack at Washburn will be on the road Jan. 3. The Lady Blues travel to Emporia on Feb. 17 for a 5:30 tip.
ESU ended Washburn’s 52-game winning streak last year with a 61-59 victory in the regional championship.
The Lady Hornets will celebrate Senior Night on Feb. 21 against Truman before ending the regular season at Southwest Baptist Feb. 24.
ESU finished 28-5 a year ago, capping the season with its fourth South Central Region title in nine years and an appearance in the Elite Eight.
The team averaged a school-record 2,684 fans per game last season. Overall, the Lady Hornets have won 132 of their last 142 games at home.
