At Tuesday’s meeting, the Flint Hills Community Health Center’s board members gave the go-ahead to apply for renewal of federal community health center funding.
By unanimous vote, the board authorized Lougene Marsh, the center’s executive director , to submit the application for renewal. Every year, the center must request renewal of community health center funding. This year, the center must also apply for renewal for the five-year project period under the federal program, Marsh said.
“This is the time of year if there were another entity that wanted to compete for federal funding, that would be happening,” Marsh said. “I don’t have any belief that there is any competitor that will be submitting an application.”
Marsh said a lot of time, energy and dollars goes into applying for renewal for the project period, which doesn’t begin until July 1, 2007. The application is due on Dec. 15. To be eligible for the funding, the center must show that it serves an underserved population, which FHCHC does.
