Neosho Rapids
People who live within a three-mile radius of Neosho Rapids are eligible to enter a Christmas decoration contest sponsored by the Neosho Rapids Lions Club.
Judging will take place the evening of Dec. 20. People who live outside the city limits and want their decorations judged need to call Dorothy, 342-4313, or Bettina, 366-1015 after 5 p.m., a news release stated.
North Lyon County
Schools in the North Lyon County district have released their first-quarter honor rolls.
Those on honor rolls at the Reading School are:

Hailey Anstey received the “Ace/Star Award” and will receive a T-shirt. The FRED (First Rate Effort Demonstrated) Award was given to Arissa Moyer. Arissa was nominated by the Student Council for her efforts in decorating Penny War jars after school.
Pride Cards were awarded to Alex Larson, Gail Lee, Katelyn Zornes, Kale Lane, Kimberly Smith, Brittney Harmon, Luke Larson, Taylor Heins and Natasha VanGundy. Those students received all “A” grades for the first quarter. The cards entitle holders to be first in the lunch line, two “homework free” coupons, free entrance into the Americus dance, a special activity at the end of the quarter and free entrance to Northern Heights High School athletic games for the quarter.
Morris County
A community Thanksgiving worship service is planned at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Council Grove High School auditorium. The service, sponsored by the Council Grove Ministerial Alliance, is open to the public. Pastor Rick Neubauer of the First Baptist Church will deliver the message, “A Proper Thanksgiving Perspective.”
A blood drive is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday in the Council Grove Christian Church. The Community Blood Center, which is sponsoring the drive, is the only source of blood supply for the Morris County Hospital.
Donors must be at least 17 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors may eat a light breakfast and lunch and are encouraged to drink plenty of water instead of tea or carbonated beverages.
Appointments may be scheduled by calling 767-5610; walk-ins also will be accepted.
The Morris County Hospital Auxiliary will serve lunch, sponsored by American Family Insurance, Community Thrift Store, Farmers Insurance Group, and Lexinet Corporation.
Council Grove High School academic teams won both varsity and junior varsity divisions last week at the Riley County Invitational Scholars’ Bowl tournament. Members of the teams are: Scott Heilman, Jordan Wittman, Cassie Wandersee and Jacob Culp, varsity; and Heilman, Jessie Zimmerman and Dylan Booth, junior varsity.
The Gathering in the Grove Fine Art Show and Sale will opened this weekend in Council Grove at the Bowers Center. A percentage of all sales will be donated to the Morris County Historical Society.
The event, which is open to the public, will run today until 5 p.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
