Songs and stories

Community Theatre of Emporia presents “At Home, An Intimate Performance” featuring singer-songwriter Stacey Wade Schneider performing at 2 p.m. Sunday at the historic Plumb Place, 224 E. Sixth Ave. Schneider will share her songs and her experiences as a singer and song writer. She is the daughter of Miley and Mary Sue Wade of Emporia.

This event is the first in the Community Theatre series of At Home performances which allow people to “meet the person behind the performance.” Admission is $5. The series will present local talent in intimate settings throughout the 2006-2007 season. For more information, see http://www.ctcks.com.

Amphion sings

The ESU Department of Music presents the Amphion Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Heath Recital Hall. On Dec. 1, there will be the Brass Ensemble and Wind Ensemble Concert at 7:30 p.m. in Albert Taylor Hall. General admission is $5; students and senior citizens, $4. Information: 341-5431.

A very country Christmas

The 17th annual Country Christmas in Burlingame will be held all day on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Activities include the craft fair from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Schuyler Annex and Kraus Hardware; cookie sales at 10 a.m. in the community library; the festival of trees from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Schuyler Museum; holiday home tours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; quilt show at the Great Plains Quilt Shop, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Santa workshop, 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Masonic Hall; turkey dinner, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lions Club; photographs and visits with Santa Claus noon to 4 p.m. in Harvest Ballroom; chili supper at Lions Club, 5 p.m.; Parade of Lights downtown, 6 p.m.

Western Wonderland

Peabody Prairie Christmas will have a Western Wonderland in downtown Peabody beginning with breakfast with Father Christmas from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Dec. 2. There will be events for all ages during the day, along with a soup lunch, hot dogs, hamburgers and a chuck wagon dinner, dances, cowboy poets and entertainment, both featuring Mike Flavin, Steve Helms and Mike Leonard. Entrance to events will require a Western Wonderland pin, which costs $3. The sponsor is the Peabody Main Street Association. Homes tour in Lebo

Lebo will have a Christmas Homes Tour from 1 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 3. Tickets, $5, may be purchased at Details Salon in Lebo. Other activities will take place downtown, along with a visit from Santa Claus.

Band to play Emporia

White Ghost Shivers, an Austin, Texas band, will perform with the Dewayn Brothers Dec. 7 at My Place Too, 19 E. Sixth Ave. The two bands will also play together Dec. 5 in Lawrence.The Emporia show begins at 8 p.m.

The appearance is part of a Kansas tour for White Ghost Shivers, a band that mixes jazz, bluegrass and an awful lot of energy. The band won a 2006 Austin Music Award for “Best None of the Above Band” and saw Nov. 16 declared “White Ghost Shivers Day” in Austin.
