Senior centers’ funding announced for 2007

Thursday, November 23, 2006

Lyon County senior centers that own their own buildings received the largest budget increases for 2007, Lyon County commissioners were told Wednesday.

Doug Stueve, department of aging services director, reported to commissioners how the 2007 funding from the county’s mill levy would break down. Every center receives an increase for 2007 compared to 2006.

The biggest increase will go to Emporia Senior Center who received $18,000 of funding from the mill levy. The amount they likely will receive in 2007 is $26,016 with an additional $6,000 pavement allocation.

Other increases include Americus Senior Center, which will go from $4,740 to $6,840; Hartford Senior Center will go from $1,980 to $2,376; Neosho Rapids Senior Center will go from $2,736 to $2,988; North Lyon County Senior Center will go from $4,044 to $5,616; Olpe Senior Center will go from $2,376 to $2,760. Abundant Harvest, which distributes the food, will decrease from $12,000 to $6,000 because the building isn’t approved for a cook site yet.

The biggest increases went to centers that own the buildings.

Stueve also said there is a $5,004 reserve built into the senior center’s budgets in case of any emergencies. The budget allocations stay within the 2007 budget set, Stueve said.
