Douglas Warin, 49, of Americus died after he was shot in Kansas City, Kan., on Tuesday night.
Jackie Waters of the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department said the shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. at 18th Street and Quindaro Blvd. Warin, who was alone, had entered a convenience store to buy a soda and, according to several witnesses, when he walked outside, shots were fired and Warin was found lying on the sidewalk.
He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. There was no vehicle near Warin at the time of the shooting, Waters said. A dark blue vehicle was seen leaving the area. The vehicle is suspected to have been involved in another shooting that happened about a half hour earlier and left one person with minor injuries.
Waters said the neighborhood that Warin was shot in is inner city.
“It’s not extremely high crime right through there, but there is a lot of drug-related incidents that go on through there,” Waters said.
Funeral arrangements for Warin are being made through Charter Funeral Homes in Emporia. Funeral arrangements are pending.
