An estimated 4 to 6 million animals are euthanized in animal shelters each year.
Still millions more die by injury, poisoning, exposure, starvation and disease, most of these animals result from unwanted offspring from animals that haven’t been spayed or neutered.
Locally, The H. Dale Buck Fund, through a grant, is hoping to turn around a few of those numbers through their “Big Fix” program. Low-income residents in Lyon County may qualify to have their pets spayed or neutered for only $45. This is the first year the Buck Fund has offered the program, which is being funded through local proceeds from the “Bones 4 Bucks” campaign; a grant from the PETCO Foundation; and additional matching funds provided through the Buck Fund.
Applications for spay and neuter assistance are available at the Emporia Animal Shelter, Dorsey Animal Clinic, Emporia Veterinary Hospital, East Emporia Veterinary Clinic or by calling the Buck Fund directly at 343-3377.
