The Fifth Judicial District Judicial Nominating Commission announced this week that the applications of all three attorneys who have applied to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of District Judge John O. Sanderson will be forwarded to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius for final selection.
Sebelius has 30 days to appoint a replacement for Sanderson. His position on the district court becomes vacant on Jan. 8. Sanderson has served on the court since 1988.
The three applicants, all Emporia attorneys, are Jeffry Larson, Blaise Plummer and Rodney Symmonds. The nominating commission interviewed them Tuesday in the Lyon County Courthouse.
The Fifth Judicial District consists of Chase and Lyon Counties. The district has three district judges and one magistrate judge.
