A day of festivities, including horse-drawn wagon rides, is planned Nov. 25 throughout much of Chase County, according to information from Deb Zeiner of the Chase County Chamber of Commerce.
Merchants will hold holiday open houses in Cottonwood Falls and Strong City, and a Winter Wonderland will be set up at W.B. Strong Caboose Park in Strong City.
The Lions Club will serve its annual breakfast at the Emma Chase Cafe in Cottonwood Falls from 7 to 10 a.m.
The Community Building in Swope Park will be the site of several activities. An arts and crafts fair will be held there from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as a Christmas cookie contest at 10 a.m. A chili lunch and dessert sale is planned there from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest is scheduled at 1 p.m.
Five homes are featured on the Holiday Homes Tour from 1 to 5 p.m. Hosts of the homes tours and the locations are: The bunkhouse at Flying W Ranch at Clements, Gwen and Josh Hoy; the restored Miller stone house on Middle Creek Road, Jim and Joan Donahue; the newly redecorated Millstream Resort Motel in Cottonwood Falls, Richard and Sharon Clute; the house at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve at Strong City; and the Elmdale Church, which will showcase the World War I activities that occurred in the church during that era.
Tickets are $5 each and are available at the chamber office, the Emma Chase Cafe and Exchange National Bank, all in Cottonwood Falls, and the Cottonwood Valley Bank, Strong City and Cedar Point.
Horse-drawn wagon rides on Broadway in Cottonwood Falls will be offered from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The wagon will deliver Santa and Mrs. Claus at 4:45 p.m. to the Prairie Coffee Co. in Cottonwood Falls, where children may visit with the couple from 5 to 7 p.m.
Members of the Eastern Star group will serve dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge in Cottonwood Falls. The voices of CCHS will provide musical entertainment.
The YWCO organization will sell hot chocolate and cookies from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Dieker’s in Cottonwood Falls.
A variety of musical performances and announcements will take place from 5:45 to 6:55 p.m. on the Broadway stage in downtown Cottonwood Falls.
The day will culminate in a ceremony to light the Chase County Courthouse Christmas lights at 7 p.m., a wassail-community caroling gathering at the Prairie Coffee Co., and a contra dance at 8:30 p.m. in the community building at Cottonwood Falls.
