Student leaders

Two office professional students have received state officer positions with Business Professionals of America. Abbi Markowitz, of Onaga, is the state president. Lannie Lyman, of Hartford was elected as the state vice-president of communications.

Business Professionals of America is the leading career technical student organization for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields. BPA has more than 55,000 members in over 2,300 chapters in 23 states.

Sertoma scholars

Lisa Brown and Michele Fischer, both of Emporia, and Matt Martin from Neosho Rapids, have been awarded Sertoma Club of Emporia scholarships for 2006-07. Lisa and Michele are Practical Nursing students. Matt is a Power Plant Technology and Industrial Maintenance student.

The Sertoma Club provides funds each year for scholarships to FHTC students who qualify academically and exemplify the ideals of Sertoma.

Cress certified

Lynn Cress, network technology instructor, recently received his CompTIA A+ certification. Earning CompTIA A+ certification designates that a candidate has a broad base of knowledge and competency in core hardware and operating system technologies including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. The CompTIA A+ certification is the premier certification that validates the skills required to excel in the role of a computer technician or support professional.

MOS certified

Four students in the office professional program recently received MOS certification. Lannie Lyman, of Hartford and Callie Meier, of New Strawn received Word Specialist certification. Jessica Redding, of Gridley and Rhonda Cunningham, of Emporia, received Expert Word certification.

The Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) credential is the globally recognized standard for demonstrating desktop skills with the Microsoft Office suite of business productivity applications.
