African Children’s Choir

The African Children’s Choir performs at 7 p.m. Friday at the First Church of the Nazarene. Twenty-six African children, from seven to 11 years old, perform. Each child in the Choir has lost one or both parents to poverty or AIDS. This year’s Choir members come from Uganda, Kenya and South Africa. There is no admission charge, but a freewill donation will be taken to support the Choir’s effort in Africa.

Harvest Home Festival

Messiah Lutheran Church will have their 10th annual Harvest Home Festival and Benefit Auction beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday in the Anderson Building at the Lyon County fairgrounds. This year a portion of the proceeds will go to the Lyon County Emergency Restricted Fund and Mission projects.

This festival features many specialty booths, especially the jelly cupboard, with more than 5,000 items including homemade jellies, jams, pie fillings, salsa, fruit, pickled goods and spice mixtures. Other specialty booths are the Christmas Corner and the Bakery, which features crafts, homemade candy and baked goods. The Flea Market will have a wide variety of items. Gift wrapping will be available.

The auction, to begin at 10 a.m., will have glassware, antiques, household goods, furniture and other items. At 1 p.m., autographed sports memorabilia will be auctioned and include items from major league baseball, college sports, the NFL, NASCAR and the NBA along with many others.

The Lyon County Health Department will give flu shots.

Cinnamon rolls, biscuits and sausage gravy will be served at 8 a.m. Lunch begins at 11:30 and features roast pork sandwiches, chili, Polish sausage, Frito chili pie, beverages and an assortment of pies and other desserts.

The celebration concludes Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. worship service and meal at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 11th and Neosho St., open to the public. For more information, call the church at 342-8181.

Olpe church supper

The Olpe United Methodist Church is serving a Ham and Beans or Chicken and Noodles Supper from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Side dishes include coleslaw, cornbread, desserts, coffee, tea and Koolade. Turkey Shoot Bingo

The Lebo American Legion is having Turkey Shoot Bingo at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lebo American Legion Hall. People will play Bingo to win a turkey and at 10 p.m., there will be a drawing for door prizes. Proceeds will be used for the Lebo Legion projects, which have included sending two boys to Boys State.

Thanksgiving service at Hartford

A Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Hartford. Music will be by Set Free: Faith, Love, Prayer, Praise.

Craft, Bingo and Soup Supper

The St. Joseph Parish Craft, Bingo and Soup Supper will be held Sunday in the Knights of Columbus Hall at Olpe, with supper served at 4:30 p.m. and Bingo played at 6:30 p.m. The menu features chili, potato soup, ham and turkey sandwiches, crackers, relishes, desserts, coffee and tea. A freewill donation for the meal will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit the St. Joseph School. Prizes include a handmade quilt. For more information, call Mary Beth Bonitatibus at (620) 475-3267.
