On Monday evening, singles will have the chance to “date” up to 10 other singles in one evening through The Learning Connection’s “Speed Dating.”
Speed Dating is a new form of matchmaking. Each “date” lasts a mere seven minutes. Speed dating has the same objective as the bar scene — to meet a potential companion — without the smoke, loud music and alcohol.
The rules of speed dating are simple. A group of singles will gather at 7 p.m. Monday at Java Cat 5, 610 Merchant St. Each person is given a name tag and a scorecard. Couples are paired to begin their first date. They are not allowed to discuss their careers or where they live. Following seven minutes of conversation, a bell is rung and the men move on to meet their next date.
Following each date, participants mark on a card whether they would have an interest in meeting their date again. If a mutual interest is noted, speed-dating organizers provide each party with the other’s phone number.
Monday night’s event is for singles 35 and over. There is a $5 fee for the evening. For more information, call The Learning Connection at 343-6555.
