Jeff Longbine filed this morning for a seat on the Emporia City Commission.
Longbine, owner of Longbine Auto Plaza, is the third to declare his candidacy for one of the three positions that will open next year on the commission. Percy Wayman and Phil Dillon filed earlier.
City Clerk Susan Mendoza said that Longbine paid $45 at her office today to cover the $35 state registration fee and the $10 filing fee.
"If we have more than twice the filings than we have seats — we've got three openings — that would mean that seven people would have to file to force a primary, which would be in February," Mendoza said.
The general election will be in April.
Longbine has not yet been reached for comment.
