Chime choir
The Americus Methodist Church Chime Choir under the direction of Shawna Moyer will present a Songs of Praise Medley this Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Everyone is invited to hear the perfomance.
Americus Methodist youth group
The youth group will be on a Thanksgiving scavenger hunt in the Americus area on Sunday beginning at 3 p.m. The members will be be asking for food to donate to the Salvation Army food pantry. There will be several teams with specific lists and each team will be accompanied by an adult. The youth group sponsors are Mary McDaniel and Shawna Moyer.
United Methodist women
The program for the October meeting of the Americus United Methodist Women’s group was presented by Elsie Bohm. Her topic was “Women and Music in the Church” which was based on an article from the Response magazine. Refreshments and decorations were arranged and provided by Mildred Daharsh and Belle Grimsley. Members attending were: Melba Roswurm, president; Elsie Bohm, vice-president; Faye Kincaid, secretary; and Mildred Daharsh, treasurer; Ila Mae Edgett; Betty Zumbrum; Mary Stephens; Barbara Bohm; and Shawna Moyer.
Holiday lighted parade
The Americus Holiday Lighted Parade will be held Saturday, December 2, 6:30 p.m., with line-up on Walnut. The theme is “Wish Upon a Star.” Entries may be made in advance by calling (620) 443-5546 or that evening between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. There will be three categories: (1) Best use of lights (2) Best depiction of the parade theme (3) Judges’ choice. All entries must be lighted and bicyclists must wear helmets.
The United Presbyterian Church group will be serving soup and sandwiches before and after the parade.
L-Cat news
The L-Cat is coming to Americus every Wednesday. Everyone is welcome to ride as there is no age limit. Pick up is at the Americus Senior Center at 9 a.m. and passengers are returned there at 11:30 a.m. Round trip fares are five riders or less $6 per person; five to 10 riders $5 per person; over 10 riders $4 per person. The bus will take you anywhere in Emporia.
Correction
Kelsey Bosch took first place for best-dressed horse and rider during the Americus Days parade. Her name was misspelled in the Nov. 6 column.
