• Kim Dains, Debra Hinrichs, Sabra Reber, Lora Metcalfe and Juleen Young, who received 2006 Fall Achievement Awards from the Flint Hills Technical College Foundation. The awards recognize students who have displayed outstanding academic achievement and leadership.
• Organizers and participants of the Connie Shell Memorial Golf Tournament. The event raised $5,610 and was given to Hand in Hand Hospice.
• Virgil Patterson who opened a new restaurant at Fourth Avenue and Merchant. Styx serves Italian food.
• ESU women’s basketball team who beat K-State. The final score was 64-59.
• All the candidates who ran for elected office and citizens who got out and voted. Voter turnout reached almost 48 percent.
• Emporia native Spencer Hill who had a speaking role on CSI New York. Hill has also appeared on “Six Feet Under, “Sacrifice” and “Julie Reno , Bounty Hunter.”
