Six Emporia High boys soccer players were named to the All-Centennial League team, led by midfielder Alex Guevara, who earned the Spartans’ only first-team honor.
Guevara was second on the team in scoring this year for the Spartans, as he recorded seven goals.
Guevara was joined in all-league honors by second-teamers Adam Sanchez, a midfielder, and defender Brandon Heavener, while midfielder Gary Rivera and defenders Marco Hernandez and Adrian Trujillo were named honorable mention.
Guevara and Heavener also were first-team Central Kansas All-Regional selections in Class 5A, as were Trujillo, Hernandez, Rivera and Sanchez, who made the squad as second-team choices. Goalkeeper Spencer Anderson was named to the team’s honorable mention list.
Adding to Guevara’s list of honors was the fact that he has been nominated for the Class 5A All-State boys soccer team. An official announcement has not been made.
Individual honors for the Spartans went to Anderson and Sanchez, who won the TRYSA Player of the Year and Sparticus award, respectively.
In earning the Sparticus award as the team’s best all-around player, Sanchez scored four goals this season and also recorded a new shot-speed record for Emporia High, as his kicks were clocked at 70 mph this season, surpassing the old school record of 66 mph.
Trujillo led the Spartans in goals this season with nine, and Spencer Anderson recorded the second-highest save rate in school history at 81.7 percent.
