The sounds of ESU
The ESU Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Albert Taylor Hall on the ESU campus. On Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Heath Recital Hall, the Composers Festival will be held , featuring the compositions of David Harp, piano. Madrigal Feast
Reservations are due by Monday for the ESU annual Renaissance Madrigal Feast to begin at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 and Nov. 18 in the Memorial Union Colonial Ballroom. Tickets are $28 each person, with a 10 percent discount given for groups purchasing tickets in blocks of eight. The setting will be in Elizabethan style, with a Wassail Bowl and music by the ESU Madrigal Singers, trumpeters and pipers. The five-course meal will feature chicken cordon-bleu as the main course.
Hispanic performer
on stage for EAC
The Emporia Arts Council’s next show is Ruby Nelda Perez in “Dona Rosita’s Jalapeno Kitchen” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart Parish Hall, 101 Cottonwood St.
Perez, an actress, soloist and comedienne, “will delight all with her rich array of characters,” said the news release. “Weaving English, Spanish and Spanglish together, Ruby Nelda Perez brings a comical performance with a tender vulnerability.”
There will be three outreach activities, including performances for elementary schools, Emporia High School and Emporia State University. Tickets are available from the Emporia Arts Council, 343-6473.
Book group
talks ‘Bee Season’
The Emporia Public Library book discussion series for Fall 2006 concludes with the novel, “Bee Season” by Myla Goldberg.

Art gifts begin
The Emporia Arts Council will hold a Nov. 18 open house for its annual Arts Gifts sale at 618 Mechanic St. The open house runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All shoppers that day will get a 10 percent discount.
In addition the arts council will begin holding extended hours Nov. 21. The arts center will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The center will be closed Nov. 23 and 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The ESU Faculty Art Exhibition continues through Dec. 10 in the Eppink Gallery, along with the Emeritus ESU Faculty Exhibition in the Gilson Room Gallery, both at King Hall. For more information, call 341-5246.

The Emporia Public Library Bookmark Design Contest continues through Nov. 30, using the theme of Emporia’s Sesquicentennial Celebration — the city’s 150th anniversary. For more information, call 340-6464. The library will be closed Saturday.
Craft festival
starts soon
The 27th annual Christmas Craft Festival in Burlington will be held Nov. 18, with more than 150 booths of arts and crafts at the Burlington High School. Items for sale are required to be handmade, homemade or homegrown. Next door, at the Craft and Gift Annex, will be approximately 100 more booths of arts and crafts. Musical masters played at Wichita
The Wichita Symphony Orchestra Classics Concert Season continues with “Musical Masters from Two Centuries — Beethoven, Lloyd Webber, Symphony No. 6 ‘Pastorale’ and Requiem” at 8 p.m. Nov. 18 and 3 p.m. Nov. 19 at Century II Concert Hall, 225 W.
