Lady Hornets sign 3 to scholarships

Thursday, November 9, 2006

It’s three down, two to go for Emporia State women’s basketball coach Brandon Schneider.

The coach received official word on Wednesday that three recruits -- Bree Kisner, Brittney Miller and Jessen Tucker -- had signed letters-of-intent to compete for the Lady Hornet basketball team next season. All three had previously given verbal commitments to ESU.

Wednesday was National Signing Day for basketball players across the country.

Kisner is a 5-foot-9 guard from Independence, Mo. She averaged 16.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.6 assists last season for William Chrisman High School and is a three-time All-Suburban Big 7 League selection. She recorded her 1,000th point for the school last January.

Kisner also received interest from Missouri, Tulsa, Wichita State and Washburn.

Miller is a 5-10 guard from Paola who will also play volleyball at ESU. She averaged 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.7 steals last year and has also earned All-State honors and been named All-Frontier League in each of the three seasons she has played. She has scored 902 career points and helped the Panthers to a 19-3 record last season. She has achieved all-league and all-state awards in volleyball as well.

Tucker is a 5-9 guard from Cedar Vale. She averaged 17.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 8.0 steals last season for Sedan High School, earning First-Team All-State honors. She also has been an All-South Central Border League selection in each of her three years. She has compiled 1,078 points in her career, helping to lead the Blue Devils to the State tournament in her freshman and junior seasons.

Alli Volkens, a 6-2 forward from Reinbeck, Iowa, and Allie Renberg, a 6-1 transfer from Iowa Lakes CC, have also verbally committed to ESU. Both are expected to officially sign later this week.

Check back with The Gazette at a later date for a complete breakdown of all the players with comments from Schneider after all five players have signed.
