All-Flint Hills League Squads announced

13 unanimous selections dotted the All-Flint Hills League football team, the league announced on Wednesday.

The players receiving all of the votes possible were Council Groves’ Caleb Chaney, Tanner Messer, Tyson Stevenson and Tyson Fore; Northern Heights’ Colter Henning, Jake Weakley, Derek Jackson and Stephen Nuessen; Marais des Cygnes Valley’s Caleb Hastings and Justin Zielke; Herington’s Anthony Bennett and Brian Blackwell; and Osage City’s T.J. Harold.

Upstart Council Grove, which finished its season 7-2, led the way with nine first-team picks: center Eric Brown, guard Dusty Alexander, tackle Chaney, tight end Stevenson and running back Messer on offense, and on defense, Brown and Stevenson got the nod again as defensive linemen, while Cory Yowell earned a spot as a defensive back and Tyson Fore as a linebacker.

Northern Heights was well represented on the first team, with receivers Henning and Michael Glass and quarterback Weakley on offense, while on defense, linebackers Jackson and Levi Hizar and kicker Neussen also earned top honors.

Osage City guard GT Ngole and Marais des Cygnes Valley tackle Colton Lohse and running back Hastings rounded out the first team offense. On defense, Herington got two representatives on the first team with defensive end Bennett and linebacker Blackwell, and Hastings got the nod at punter.

Herington’s Blackwell and Northern Heights’ JW Roeder were named the top specialists.

Osage City defensive lineman Harold and defensive back Dalton Keeffe earned a spot, as well as three Marais des Cygnes Valley players in linebacker Justin Zielke, defensive backs Bubba Bays and Jess Rutledge.

Osage City led the way with four first-team selection on the All-Flint Hills League volleyball team, the league announced Wednesday.

Miranda Bryan, Paige Fort, Chelsea Reed and Hollie Haskins all represented Osage City on the first team, giving Osage City one more selection that Council Grove and Pomona, which each had three first-team picks.

Council Grove was represented by Allison Scott, Whitney Cowdin and Dana Stephenson, while Melissa Reed, Stephanie Nitcher and Samantha Shaffer earned spots for Pomona.

Rounding out the first–team selections were Herington’s Crysta Brockmeier and Mission Valley’s Kaytlyn Converse.
