Chase County came through with its usual high voter turnout on Tuesday, with approximately 62.5 percent of the registered voters going to the polls.
“We had a good election,” said County Clerk June Morgan. “Chase County’s always higher than average.”
Voters elected Rick Griffin to County Commission Position 1, by a 245 to 169 vote over opponent Steve Collette. The position includes Cottonwood (Cedar Point), Cedar, Homestead, Matfield, Bazaar and Toledo townships.
The county also voted to realign its seven-member school board from six districts to three. The unofficial vote was 726 in favor and 370 against.
“Each district had one in the past,” she said. “Now they’ll have two and the one at-large.”
Morgan emphasized that the results did not include some ballots that had yet to arrive from Marion and Lyon counties, nor does it include provisional ballots. The advance and election-day vote total was 1,191 of 1,901 registered voters.
She said that the ballots yet to be counted should not appreciably affect the unofficial results.
