First District County Commission candidate Scott Briggs got a surprise this evening while he waited for election results to dribble in.
Two young men outside Democratic headquarters sent in Briggs’ opponent’s card, with a few words scribbled on the back, and asked that it be handed to Briggs with a message that it had been found on the sidewalk outside.
Briggs looked puzzled for a moment, then turned the card over and smiled.
“We came from Missouri to see how our buddy Scott was doing in the election,” said Jay Baxter of Marshall, Mo.
Baxter, the son of Emporian Lorna Baxter, was accompanied by Ron Martin of Lebanon, Mo.
“I’m a little shaken right now,” a surprised Briggs said after walking out to the sidewalk to greet the laughing pair. “This is number two. They did this on my 50th birthday.”
