Central Missouri defeats ESU, 48-21

ESU plays Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo.

Saturday, November 4, 2006

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Emporia State went 81 yards on eight plays during its first possession. Seville Ko finished the drive with a four-yard TD run. He also added a 48-yard run on the Hornets' second play.

UCM answered with a 72-yard drive in eight plays. Matt Jacobsen caught a 22-yard TD pass from Toby Korrodi on a fourth and 4 from the ESU 22.

ESU drove down the field on the next possession, but a fourth-down scamble by quarterback Ben Purkeypile came up inches short on the UCM 4.

The Mules responded with a 6-play, 96-yard drive, capped by a 37-yard touchdown run from Will Caldwell. Spencer Webb missed the ensuing point-after to keep the score at 13-7.

Following an ESU punt, UCM scored on its third straight possession, going 72 yards on six plays. Caldwell scored on a nine-yard run, and Webb kicked the PAT for a 13-point lead.

After a failed fourth-down attempt by ESU, Korrodi needed just one play to tack on a fourth UCM touchdown. He completed a 55-yard bomb to Chad Ridley, which helped push the lead to 20.

Purkeypile led ESU on a 77-yard scoring drive at the end of the half, capping it with a 29-yard TD pass to Sean Partridge down the right seam. Jeff Edwards kicked the extra-point to make it 27-14.

Korrodi led UCM on an 80-yard scoring drive, completing the possession with an eight-yard TD pass to Jason McCartney. Jacob Lumpkin tacked on the point-after to make it 34-14.

ESU marched 85 yards on 10 plays, capped by an 18-yard TD pass from Purkeypile to Partridge. Edwards' PAT pulled the Hornets back within 13.

Korrodi led UCM 44 yards on seven plays, finishing the drive with a 27-yard TD pass to Ridley. Lumpkin added the PAT to make it 41-21.

Jeremy Braden took advantage of a short field for UCM, rushing twice for 28 yards, the second a 13-yard TD run. Lumpkin kicked the point-after for a 27-point lead.
