Tech college takes a dentist to lunch

On Wednesday, the Flint Hills Technical College held a roundtable luncheon highlighting the dental assisting program.
The presentation focused on the program, curriculum development and a possible future program in dental hygiene. Several area dentists, hygienists, and other dental professionals attended.
FHTC has been a partner in the dental profession through its training in certified post-secondary environment, dental assistance and supra-gingival scaling personnel,” Emporia orthodontist Stephen Haught. “The effect of trained workers excited to join our dental staffs play into office renewal and excitement for our patients. Offering insight and learning how we can support the program will ultimately create great partnerships in our profession.”
The dental assisting program received its first American Dental Association accreditation in 1968, and continues to serve the local and area communities through workforce development, active community service by its students and low-cost dental care for the public through supervised clinical experiences. The involvement of local and regional dental professionals provides important input into the current training of dental assistants and as FHTC considers further options in dental careers.
