ORGANIZERS and participants of Red Ribbon Week. Emporia public schools sponsored activities to raise awareness of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.
- The Emporia High School football team, which had a winning season. The team was 1-8 last year and 6-3 this year.
- Michael Lane, who began his new duties as Emporia State University president on Wednesday.
- Mike Rhudy, who sold three of his classic Camaros to General Motors for the company’s historical collection.
- Lyon County State Bank, which is going to remodel its Industrial Road branch.
- People who attended the Jessica Horn benefit concert. The event grossed $2,500, which benefits ESU athletics.
- EHS debaters Chase Ihde and Erica Bennett, who dominated the Manhattan Invitational Debate Tournament with an 8-0 record and a first-place finish. The team captured the team sweepsatkes trophy as the best overall school.
- Organizers and participants of the Emporia Main Street Auction. The event raised $8,000 for information kiosks for downtown Emporia.
- The EHS gymnastics team, which finished third at regionals and earned a slot in the state championship meet.
- ESU women’s basketball team, which was the preseason pick to win the MIAA conference.
