The Emporia Rescue Mission got a late Christmas present this year — a $35,000 donation.
Sandy Cook, of the Rescue Mission, said the Emil Babinger Trust Fund donated the money. It is divided into two checks, $10,000 for Abundant Harvest and $25,000 for the men’s shelter.
Emil Babiner, who is deceased, lived and farmed in the Flint Hills and was known for his good deeds, which he often did quietly, Cook said. She said he often donated to organizations, expecting nothing in return.
Cook said the Rescue Mission will make good use of the money.
“It’s a very special Christmas present that was received a couple of days after Christmas,” she said. “We are looking forward to being able to provide some much-needed services and to provide some things that have been put on hold. This will enable us to move forward in the new year, especially in the men’s shelter.”
