Morris County

Special Christmas activities are planned at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Council Grove Sunday.

An infant baptism, special music by the children’s Sunday school and lighting of the Advent candle are planned at the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

The Christmas Eve candlelight service will begin at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Carols and communion will be part of the service and a potluck dinner will be held in Fellowship Hall afterwards.

“The Christmas Story” will be presented at 5 p.m. on today in the Wilsey Christian Church. The program was written by Frances Davies and directed by Laverna Leeson.

Special music by Linda McDiffett and family are planned at 7 p.m. today in the Emmanuel United Methodist Church southeast of Alta Vista. Carols sung by the congregation will be part of the program, and others who want to present special music. A fellowship will be held after the service.

Coffey County

Burlington Promotions awarded prizes for seven floats in the Burlington Lighted Christmas Parade this month.

Winners in the non-profit category were: Christian Church of Burlington, first; Girl Scouts, second; and Veterans, third. The Jack Reynolds family won first place in the family float category and the Mary Hicks Family placed second. Caldwell Implement was first and First National Bank of Kansas was second in the business category.

The Burlington High School and Middle School bands each received $50, which Gary McCarty, band director, said would be used to purchase music for the bands.

North Lyon County

Volunteers are needed to judge the Jonathan Adee Memorial Invitational Forensics Tournament on Feb. 3 at Northern Heights High School. Judges do not need forensics experience; they need only the ability to listen and to give advice to participants.

Judging will be done from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Chase County

The community blood drive will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Community Building in Swope Park in Cottonwood Falls. Free T-shirts will be given to all who donate blood.
