CITY: Candidate files for commission

Michael Mercer, 812 Lakeview St., filed Friday afternoon for a seat on the Emporia City Commission.

Mercer filed by petition. Filing by petition requires paying a $35 fee, but eliminates a $10 filing fee. The petition must contain a minimum of 50 valid signatures. Assistant City Clerk Kerry Sull said that Mercer’s petition contained 57 signatures, which will need to be checked and validated.

Mercer would be able to pay a $10 filing fee if the petition is found not to be valid.
