Christmas light winners
Every year the City of Olpe sponsors a Christmas decorating contest. This year the winner of first place prize went to Dorothy Bowers. Second place went to Les and Michelle Barnhart. There was a tie for third place between Tom and Julie Coble and Kim and Sally Pargman. Honorable mention went to the Olpe Post Office display, David and Jody Windle, and Fred and Helen Windle. Ron Thomas from Emporia radio stations judged the contest.
All-school program
Olpe schools presented their annual winter program to a full house on Dec. 11 in the high school gym. Becky Rabenseifner directed Christmas songs that were performed by children from the early start program through the sixth grade. The junior high and high school choir and band also performed.
January meeting
The next PTO meeting will be held Monday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. Childcare is available and everyone is encouraged to attend. The PTO will begin honoring volunteers who help the school by placing their picture on the school bulletin board
Christmas break
The Olpe Schools will be on Christmas vacation through Jan. 3. The next home basketball game will be Jan 9.
Authors of the month
The Olpe Elementary authors of the month are: Grant Pimple, Lillie Schroeder, Levi Cole, Brianna Voghts, C.J. Newkirk, Katelyn Schultz, and Mindy Woods.
Lollipop sales
Olpe High School student council members will be selling lollipops to generate funds for school projects. The lollipops will sell for 75 cents each.
Fall sports dinner
The Fall Sports appreciation dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 30 in the school cafeteria. Members of the volleyball, football, cross country teams, the cheerleaders, coaches and family are encouraged to attend. Please bring a side dish and table service. Meat and drinks will be provided.
