It’s another day and another detour for travelers near the Emporia entrance to the Kansas Turnpike.
This time, northbound and southbound drivers on I-35 are being detoured onto the median to work around the turnpike construction. The northbound detour went into place today.
“We’re going to start tearing the old street out, so we can start building new,” said Tony Menke of the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The southbound detour was scheduled to begin today, but could be postponed until Tuesday, Menke said.
The detours on I-35 start a quarter mile west of the Graphic Arts Road bridge and continue to a point halfway between Graphic Arts Road and Industrial Road. In addition, southbound traffic will have a new exit ramp for leaving the interstate and entering the turnpike.
