Friday Thoughts

Friday, December 22, 2006

“Friday Thoughts” is a light-hearted commentary.

THIS YEAR for my flu shot, I went to Reeble’s Country Mart, where Newman Regional Health had a flu-shot clinic. I was graciously greeted by Nancy LeClear, the marketing and education director for the hospital. I thought she was there to pass out education materials, but then I noticed she was actually giving the shots.

It made me a little nervous to see someone who pushes a pencil and puts marketing plans together wielding a needle to administer shots. I inquired if I should wait until the nurse got back from her break. Nancy then informed me that she was the only one working. Before I stepped up for my shot, I carefully observed the people before me, making sure they weren’t crumpling over in pain.

Nancy did tell me that she was actually a nurse before she moved into the marketing department and that she had practiced to freshen up her skills. This was somewhat reassuring.

Newman Regional Health reported this week that they still have 300 shots left. Make plans to get yours.

If Nancy is the one giving the shot, don’t be afraid. She did a great job.
