Newman Regional Health has more than 300 flu shots available, said Nancy LeClear of the hospital’s marketing department. LeClear said because the vaccine arrived so late, the hospital now has an abundance.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the peak of flu season can occur anywhere from late December through March.
Lougene Marsh, executive director of the Flint Hills Community Health Center, said there are still flu shots available at the center. The center has 200 doses at $20 apiece. No appointment is necessary and the public is welcome.
“People can make it a Christmas present for themselves,” Marsh said.
“We have plenty left at this time,” LeClear said. “People have just stopped getting them. It’s not to late to get them.”
LeClear said the shots are $18 apiece at the hospital and people should call the marketing and education department at 343-6800, ext. 2520 before coming in.
LeClear said arrangements could be made for people who cannot get out of their cars.
“We would be glad to be as helpful as we can on that,” LeClear said. “They can drive through the driveway here. If individuals would let us know they can’t get out of the car, we would be willing to come out to the car if we’re available.”
