Taxes not paid on Wednesday for personal property will be due in full on Thursday, according to Treasurer Dora Hartig.
“It’s just personal property, like boats, mobile homes, trailers,” Hartig said. “If it’s not paid at least in half, then it’s due in full.
Real estate taxes not paid at least in half on Wednesday will be due in full on May 10 and property-owners will pay interest on unpaid first half-taxes at that time.
Emporia High school debators
Two Emporia High School debaters have received honor in recognition of their successes this year.
Mary Yanik and Alex Bonnet were chosen to participate in the 2007 Debate Coaches’ Invitational Tournament on Jan. 5 and 6 at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka.
They were one of 28 teams selected for the tournament from more than 2,000 high school debate teams statewide. They also won the opportunity to represent the Kansas City region in the National Catholic Forensic League debate championship next summer. The NCFL is one of two governing bodies for high school speech competition, and consists primarily of private Eastern parochial high schools, academies and preparatory schools, according to information from EHS debate coach Scott Bonnet.
