Recreation basketball

Basketball teams are now forming for boys and girls in the third, fourth and fifth grades. Coaches will soon be contacting players.

Registration forms for summer baseball will be coming out in January, which is the new deadline for forming teams. 

If there are questions concerning basketball or baseball teams, talk to any member of the Americus Recreation Organization board — Marcia Johnson, Tim Delcamp, Melissa Rich or Denise King.

The board is seeking a fifth member. Letters of interest may be sent to P. O. Box 526, Americus, KS 66835.

Dance and cheer clinic

A dance and cheer clinic for girls ages 3 years through fifth grade will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 30 in the Northern Heights High School Gymnasium. The girls in the clinic will perform at the Jan. 5 varsity boys game.

Pet vaccinations

The city will have an animal clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 27 at the city shop, 506 Cherry St. Dog and cat tags for 2007 may be purchased. Dr. Scott Gordon will give vaccinations.

City tags are $2 for animals that have not been spayed or neutered, and $1 for animals that have been.

A late fee of 50 cents a month will be added after Jan. 31. Tags for 2007 are available at city hall.

In accordance with city codes, pets are not allowed to run at large within the city. A fine of $25 has been set for the first offense and $50 for the second offense. For the third offense and subsequent offenses, the fine is set by the municipal court judge. Court costs of $65 will be added to the fine.

Sewer, lagoon project

The sewer and lagoon project is underway. Flags have been placed around town to indicate where work will be undertaken. Residents are asked to be patient during this process and to respect the markings. For information, call city hall, (620) 443-5655.

Prohibited noise

The Americus City Council has drafted an ordinance regulating noise within the city limits. The ordinance is expected to be passed at the Jan. 9 business meeting. The public is invited to attend the meeting.
