Auction for SIDS
A 1930’s-era ice box is being offered as the prize in a drawing to benefit the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome organization.
The ice box was donated in memory of Haley Slaymaker, who died from SIDS when she was six months old. Haley, who was born Dec. 9, 1996, was the daughter of Lance and Katie Slaymaker, who donated the ice box.
Shirley Slaymaker, Haley’s grandmother and co-owner of Poehler Antiques, said that tickets for the raffle can be purchased for $1 each or six for $5 at Poehler’s.
The ice box, valued at about $800, will be on display at the store until the drawing on Dec. 22.
Holiday Concert for church
The music of the Christmas season will be in the air Sunday afternoon at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 828 Commercial St.
Emporia State University musicians Stanford and Antonia Felix will perform at 2 p.m., joined by fellow faculty members Marie Miller, Bill Clamurro and other musical friends. After the concert, a reception is planned in the church’s parish hall.
There is no charge for the concert, but those attending will have the opportunity to make donations that will be used for St. Andrew’s outreach projects.
